A Peaceful Morning in the Garden#

Toota living peacefully in her beloved garden

Once upon a time, in the garden of a cozy little house, lived a young mulberry sapling named Toota. She had glossy green leaves and a slender stem that was far stronger than it looked. Toota loved her garden dearly, waking each morning to birdsong and the sweet scent of blossoms.

All around her grew jasmine, cool mint, and bright chamomile flowers. Just a whisper away stood an old Fig Tree, whose wide green branches shaded Toota on hot summer afternoons.

Toota loved listening to children laughing and playing on the grass. She would sway happily in the breeze, feeling as though this little corner was the entire world.

Every morning, she would whisper to the sky:

“This is my home… here are my roots… and here, I know everything.”

The wise Fig Tree smiled down at her one day and murmured:

“Home is more than just a patch of soil, little one. It is also what we carry in our hearts.”

Toota was very small, and she did not yet understand what the old tree meant.

The Raging Storm#

A fierce storm uproots Toota and carries her away

Then came a night when the sky turned heavy and dark. A howling storm swept over the garden. The wind roared, thunder boomed, lightning cracked across the clouds, and the rain fell in great, rushing sheets.

Branches thrashed and leaves flew. Toota held on to the earth with every tiny root she had, but she was still so young, and the storm was very, very strong.

The Fig Tree called out above the noise:

“Hold tight, Toota!”

But the wind blew harder still…

With a sudden gust, Toota was lifted clean from the ground. Away she flew into the dark, carried far, far from everything she knew.

Tumbling through the rushing air, Toota spun round and round, terrified and lost.

She tucked her leaves tight against her stem, closed her eyes, and whispered into the night:

“I just want to go home…”

A Stranger in a Strange Soil#

Toota arrives in an unfamiliar new place

At last, the storm grew quiet and the morning sun peered through the mist. Toota opened her eyes to find herself in a completely new place. There was not a single face, tree, or flower that she recognized.

She lay on the cold ground, her delicate roots beginning to dry out.

Toota felt very small and terribly sad. But before long, a kind old gardener came walking by with a trowel and a watering can. When he saw the little sapling lying there, he picked her up gently and planted her into the warm earth.

Toota stretched her tiny roots down into the soil. The dirt felt different here—its color was unfamiliar, and so was its smell.

She peeked around. Towering above her were strange, tall trees whose names she didn’t know.

She listened carefully to the birds chirping in the canopy, but their songs sounded different too.

A heavy lump rose in Toota’s throat.

She whispered quietly to herself:

“This isn’t my garden.”

A little later, the friendly gardener returned with fresh water…

Cool droplets splashed down around her stem, but Toota curled her roots away in fear.

She said softly:

“I won’t drink… I only want the water from my old home.”

A day passed… and then another…

Toota drooped, feeling wilted and longing with all her heart for the familiar garden where she had sprouted.

Roots Reaching Out with Love#

In this new land lived a wise old Oak, a sweet Pomegranate tree, a silver Olive tree, and many other leafy friends.

They all noticed how quiet and sad the newcomer was.

The Olive Tree whispered softly:

“She misses her home.”

The Pomegranate nodded gently:

“Sadness doesn’t need scolding; it needs understanding.”

The trees thought for a moment, and together they decided on a quiet way to help.

Down beneath the surface of the earth, the big trees began to stretch their roots out slowly and softly.

The trees reaching their roots out to comfort Toota

Underground, their roots reached closer and closer until they touched Toota’s tiny, trembling roots.

They did not push or crowd her. They simply wrapped around her with gentle warmth, as if to say:

“You are not alone.”

A comforting glow spread right up through Toota’s stem.

She asked shyly:

“Who’s there?”

The Oak Tree rustled high above:

“We are your neighbors.”

And the Olive Tree added warmly:

“We cannot bring your old garden back, little one, but we can make this place warm and kind. You don’t have to be afraid—you are safe here.”

For the very first time since the storm, a tiny smile touched Toota’s leaves.

The Rain’s Gentle Message#

Toota taking a refreshing drink of rain

That evening, a soft, soothing rain began to fall from the sky.

Gentle drops tapped softly upon the green leaves all around.

One cool drop landed right on Toota’s cheek and asked:

“Why don’t you take a drink?”

Toota answered quietly:

“Because this isn't the rain from my home.”

The raindrop chuckled with a soft, silvery sound:

“I travel all across the wide sky. Today I visit a high mountain, tomorrow a deep blue sea, and the next day a garden just like this. Wherever I go, I am still clean, sweet rain, ready to give life to anyone who is thirsty.”

Toota thought about the raindrop’s words.

Could rain truly be kind everywhere?

The old Olive Tree leaned down and said:

“Goodness falls from the clouds here too, little one.”

And the Pomegranate smiled:

“And the sun here knows how to warm a lonely heart.”

Toota hesitated for just a moment…

Then, slowly, she took a single sip.

Cool refreshment rushed through her veins. Her thirst faded, and strength began to return to her tired leaves.

Memories That Never Fade#

Toota sharing her memories with the surrounding trees

As the days turned into weeks, Toota began to grow taller.

She made friends with all the trees in the orchard.

She learned the names of the visiting birds that sang in the branches.

And she discovered that every single tree had its own wonderful story to tell.

Yet she never forgot her first home.

Sometimes, she would tell her new friends all about the big Fig Tree, the sweet-smelling jasmine, and the happy laughter of the children.

The other trees listened closely, delighting in every word.

The Oak Tree would say:

“Tell us more!”

And the Olive Tree would add:

“Your stories make our garden even more beautiful.”

A deep sense of peace washed over Toota.

She realized that remembering where she came from didn't stop her from loving where she was. In fact, it meant she had two treasures instead of one.

Berries Full of Stories#

Toota talking with a newly sprouted sapling

Seasons came and went, and Toota grew taller and stronger, blossoming into a graceful young mulberry tree.

One bright spring morning, the very first cluster of dark, sweet berries appeared on her branches.

All the trees cheered and celebrated her wonderful new fruit.

The birds sang out:

“Look at those magnificent mulberries!”

Toota smiled with pride and said:

“Every single berry holds a story.”

A tiny sapling that had just sprouted nearby looked up and asked:

“Were you born here?”

Toota beamed softly:

“No, little sprout. I came from far away.”

The little sapling wondered:

“Do you still miss your old home?”

“Yes,” Toota answered honestly, “and I always will love it.”

“Always and forever.”

Then she added with a warm, glowing smile:

“But I learned that a heart is big enough to love more than one home.”

The little sprout asked:

“Did you lose your roots when you left?”

Toota shook her green leaves gently in the sunshine:

“Roots aren’t made of dirt alone,” she said.

She leaned closer to the tiny sprout:

“Our roots are made of memories, stories, and all the people we love.”

Looking around at her tall, faithful friends, she added:

“And those are treasures that travel inside us, wherever the wind takes us.”

Growing Strong and Finding Hope#

One calm evening, a gentle breeze rustled through the orchard.

Toota thought back to the night of the howling storm, but fear was nowhere to be found. She was strong now.

Not because she had forgotten her beginnings…

…but because she carried them safely within her heart.

She looked out at the peaceful garden, and at the trees who had reached their roots out to her on her very first day.

With a heart full of gratitude, she whispered:

“You showed me that a new home never erases an old one.”

She looked up into the twilight sky:

“A tree can hold on tight to her roots, while reaching high towards the stars in new soil.”

The trees nodded softly, their leaves dancing in the dusk like a quiet, cheering round of applause.

From that day on, whenever a frightened little sprout arrived from far away, Toota was always the first to reach out her roots beneath the soil and whisper:

“Don’t worry, little one. The ground around you may change, but your real roots stay with you always. In time, you will find friends, warmth, and brand new dreams blossoming right here.”

A hopeful new chapter begins in the garden

Toota lived happily in her new home. As the years passed, people and woodland creatures came from all around to enjoy the shade and the beauty of the pomegranate, oak, olive, and mulberry trees. Toota swayed gently, showering ripe, sweet berries for happy children and little animals to enjoy.

She listened happily to their laughter and their tales. Every time she felt the breeze, she smiled with quiet pride at how well she had grown—never once forgetting the sweet sunny garden where her story first began.

🎨 Creative Family Activity: The Root & Branch Tree#

After reading Toota’s story, try this simple art activity together to help your child express their feelings and turn nostalgia into creative strength:

Purpose of the Activity#

To help your child feel grounded and secure in their identity (the roots) while looking forward with hope to new experiences (the branches).

What You’ll Need#

A large sheet of paper, crayons, colored pencils, or paints.

Step-by-Step Guide#

Step 1: Draw the Deep Roots (Identity & Precious Memories)

Help your child draw strong tree roots spreading deep across the bottom of the page. Inside each root, invite them to write or draw things they love and carry with them (e.g., their hometown, a favorite food, a cherished friend, or family hugs). Remind them:

"These are our roots, and they travel inside our hearts wherever we go."

Step 2: Draw the Branches and Sweet Fruit (Present & Future)

Now, have your child draw the trunk and branches reaching high toward the sky. On the branches, draw bright berries or fruit (just like Toota’s). Inside each fruit, have them write or draw something wonderful they have found or hope for in their new surroundings (a new friend, a fun playground, a favorite school activity, or a future wish).

Step 3: Share and Display

Hang their finished artwork in their bedroom as a comforting reminder that, just like Toota, they can keep their dearest memories close while growing and blooming in any new soil.
