Pip's Little Secret#
Right at the edge of a lush green meadow lived a little bunny named Pip. He shared a snug burrow with his mama and papa beneath the shade of leafy walnut trees. Pip loved painting, bounding through clover patches, and picking wildflowers. But deep inside, he carried a secret that only his parents knew.
Whenever a loud sound cracked through the air—a slamming door, a roll of thunder, or a falling wooden crate—his heart would thump like a drum, his long ears would tremble, and he would crouch low to the ground, whispering:
“Please stop... please, just be quiet.”
Loud noises frightened him because they brought back memories of difficult days, when his family had to leave their old home behind due to terrifying blasts. They were safe and sound now, but those scary echoes still lingered in the little bunny's heart.
Pip rarely talked about it, but he wished with all his heart that he could feel as carefree as his woodland friends.

Different Ears, Different Fears#
One sunny afternoon, Pip went out to play with his friends.
Suddenly, Hedgehog kicked the ball right into a metal dustbin with an almighty:
“CLANG!”
The other little animals jumped, giggled, and went right back to their game.
Pip, however, froze where he stood. A shiver ran through him, he clamped his paws over his ears, and his breath came in quick little gasps.
Little Tortoise plodded over and asked gently:
“Are you all right, Pip?”
Pip could barely manage a nod.
He hopped all the way home, his heart heavy and sad.
He looked up at his father and asked:
“Papa... why do loud sounds scare me so much when nobody else minds them?”
Papa smiled warmly, knelt down, and rested a gentle paw on Pip's shoulder.
“Because your heart remembers hard times,” Papa said. “It is not your fault, little one. Your heart just needs a little practice to learn that most sounds here do not mean danger.”
Pip looked up, his eyes bright with hope.
“Can my heart really learn that?”
Papa smiled.
“It certainly can.”

The Magic Sound Box#
The very next morning, Papa brought out a small wooden box painted with fluttering birds, fluffy clouds, and twinkling stars. On the front was a tiny golden clasp.
Handing it to Pip, Papa said:
“This is your Magic Sound Box.”
Pip’s eyes opened wide with wonder.
“Is it truly magic?”
Papa chuckled softly.
“The real magic lives inside your imagination.”
Papa sat beside his son and explained the game.
“Whenever you hear a sound that startles you, close your eyes and imagine the noise shrinking into a little ball floating in the air.”
Pip smiled as he pictured it in his mind.
Papa went on:
“Then, reach out with your imagination, catch the ball, and pop it right inside your box.”
Pip curved his paws in the air, pretending to scoop up an invisible ball.
“And then snap the lock shut tight!”
Papa pressed the tiny clasp down.
“CLICK!”
Pip let out a happy giggle—his first real laugh in days.
Then Papa added:
“Once the box is locked, replace that scary noise with a sound you love.”
“Like what?” asked Pip.
“Like a robin’s sweet song... a bubbling brook... soft rain on a leaf... or the breeze whispering through the branches.”
Pip closed his eyes and imagined birds singing merrily in the tall oak tree.
Without even realizing it, a peaceful smile spread across his face.

The First Test#
Two days later, Pip was helping Mama tidy up the garden shed.
All of a sudden...
A sudden gust of wind slammed the shed door shut.
“BANG!”
For a split second, fright gripped Pip's chest.
But this time, he remembered the game.
He squeezed his eyes shut.
He pictured the loud bang as a fuzzy gray ball.
He reached out his paws and caught it out of the air.
He popped open his imaginary box,
tucked the ball inside,
and fastened the lock.
“CLICK!”
Right away, he imagined a little yellow songbird on a branch, chirping sweetly:
“Tweet, tweet, tweedle-dee...”
Slowly but surely, his little heart settled down.
He opened his eyes.
Mama beamed down at him warmly.
“Brilliant job, Pip.”
Pip grinned shyly.
“It worked... a little bit!”
Mama kissed his furry forehead.
“And every little success leads to a bigger one.”

New Sounds, Stronger Magic#
Pip decided to practice every single day.
When thunder rumbled, he pictured a rolling blue ball, tucked it into the box, and listened instead to the soft pitter-patter of rain on leaves.
When a metal saucepan crashed to the kitchen floor, he scooped up the noise in his mind, locked it away, and imagined the gentle coo of a dove.
When a heavy lorry rumbled down the far road, into the box it went, replaced by the tranquil rush of a winding river.
Every time, Pip reminded himself:
“I am safe here.”
“It is only a noise.”
“And I know just what to do.”
Day by day, his fear melted away faster and faster.

A Game for Everyone#
One bright afternoon, Pip invited his friends over to play.
“Would you like to see a special game my papa taught me?” he asked.
“Yes, please!” they all chimed in.
Pip brought out his beautifully painted wooden box.
He showed them how to catch scary noises and turn them into floating bubbles of imagination.
Little Squirrel twitched her bushy tail.
“I don't mind most sounds, but the roaring vacuum cleaner gives me such a fright!”
Everyone giggled with understanding.
Hedgehog nodded.
“And fireworks make me want to curl into a tiny prickle-ball!”
Little Bird chirped softly:
“I always worry when the wind howls through the treetops.”
Pip smiled at his friends.
“That’s why the game is so wonderful—each of us can choose our own soothing sound.”
“I’ll choose the gentle lapping of ocean waves!” said Squirrel.
“I’ll choose the soft tune of a wooden flute,” said Hedgehog.
“And I’ll choose the whispering forest at dawn,” whispered Bird.
They spent the afternoon laughing and playing, pretending to catch every noisy scare and locking them safely inside their boxes, one by one.

When the Storm Returned
One stormy night, a clap of thunder roared across the sky, louder than ever before.
Pip felt a tiny shiver run down his back.

He closed his eyes.#
He pictured the thunder as a giant, rolling ball.
It took both of his imaginary paws to push it all the way into the box.
Then he snapped the lock shut with all his might.
“CLICK!”
Next, he pictured thousands of soft raindrops falling gently upon green moss, and happy birds singing as the clouds rolled away.
He took a long, slow breath in...
and out.
Once...
twice...
and three times.
When he opened his eyes, Papa was sitting right beside him, smiling proudly.
“How are you feeling, little one?” Papa asked.
Pip beamed.
“I can still hear the thunder... but it doesn’t fill my heart with fear anymore.”
Papa wrapped him in a warm hug.
“That is because you are in charge of your imagination now—not your fear.”

Magic That Never Fades
As time went by, Pip felt lighter, braver, and more at peace.
His worries did not vanish overnight, and he hadn't turned fearless in a single day, but he had discovered something truly powerful.
Whenever a sudden noise stirred up old memories, Pip knew he could pause, take a deep breath, scoop up the sound in his mind, and lock it away inside his magic box—leaving plenty of room for calm.

It was a shining badge of courage, and a gentle reminder that he had the power to soothe his own heart.#
Every evening before snuggling under his blanket, Pip tapped his little box with a smile and whispered:
“Sounds may be loud... but my calm is stronger.”

And so, Pip learned to find peace even on noisy days. Sometimes loud sounds bring back tricky memories for us too, but with a little practice, a sprinkle of imagination, and the love of those around us, we can always find our way to calm—filling our hearts with sounds of comfort and joy.
