Sami and the Little Grey Cloud
When a gloomy little cloud follows Sami wherever he goes, he learns that sharing his sad feelings is the best way to let the sunshine back in.

Sami woke up one morning and instantly felt that something was off. It wasn’t a stormy day outside—the sky was blue and birds were chirping on the branches. Yet, right above his head, hovered something very strange... a tiny grey cloud that only he could see!
Wherever he moved, it moved too. And whenever he tried to smile, it showered him with tiny drops of gloom.
Where had this little grey cloud come from? Why was it following him? And would it ever go away?

The Little Grey Cloud Above Sami's Head#
Sami slowly opened his eyes, stretched his arms, and let out a big yawn. Morning sunlight poured into his room, but for some reason, he didn’t feel like getting up at all.
Then, he noticed a shadow drifting overhead.
He looked straight up. There it was—a puffy grey cloud floating just above his hair, as if tied to him by an invisible string.
He blinked once. Then twice.
"What in the world?"
He waved his hand to shoo it away, but the cloud just bobbed right along with his arm.
He hopped out of bed—the cloud hopped too.
He hurried over to the bedroom door—the cloud hurried right above him.
He stopped. The cloud stopped.
"Are you... following me?" Sami whispered.
The cloud didn't say a word. Instead, *drip*, it dropped a tiny cold raindrop right onto the tip of his nose.
It sent a shiver down his spine and left a heavy ache in his chest.

A Day Without Colour#
Sami trudged downstairs to the kitchen.
"Good morning, sunshine!" his mother greeted him with a bright smile.
He tried to smile back, but the corners of his mouth felt glued down.
"Did you sleep well, sweetie?" she asked.
"I don't know..." Sami mumbled softly. "Everything just feels heavy today."
His mom looked at him closely.
She looked above his head.
She didn't see anything at all. No one could see the little grey cloud except Sami.
She gently rubbed his back. "Maybe a good breakfast will cheer you up."
She set down a plate of fluffy pancakes—his absolute favourite—but today, they looked dull and tasted like plain cardboard.
Every few minutes, the cloud let out a tiny sprinkle, making his smile sink even deeper into hiding.

Not in the Mood to Play#
After breakfast, Sami stepped out into the garden.
The neighbourhood kids were zooming around, laughing and kicking a football across the grass.
"Hey, Sami! Over here!" called his best pal, Karim.
Sami took a step forward.
Suddenly, the grey cloud let out another cold drizzle.
His shoes suddenly felt as heavy as lead boots.
"I... I don't feel like playing today," Sami whispered.
Karim tilted his head in surprise.
"Since when? You love football more than anyone!"
Sami gave a small shrug.
"Just not today."
He walked over and sat down on the wooden bench all by himself.
The cloud hovered low over his forehead, casting a shadowy veil over his face and making all the laughter around him sound muffled and far away.

Trying to Run Away#
Sami decided he had had enough. He was going to outrun this stubborn cloud.
He took off sprinting as fast as his legs could carry him.
The cloud zipped along right above his hair.
He popped open a big umbrella.
The cloud slipped right underneath the fabric.
He crawled into his blanket fort in his bedroom.
The cloud drifted right in beside him.
Finally, he pulled his thick duvet all the way over his head and squeezed his eyes shut.
He waited one whole minute.
Then two.
Very cautiously, he peeked out from under the covers...
There it was. Still hovering. Still grey.
Sami sighed deeply. "Why won't you just leave me alone?"
The little cloud just floated there, silent and still.

Grandma's Gentle Wisdom#
That evening, Grandma came over to visit.
She sat beside Sami on the sofa and noticed how quiet he was.
"You look like you're carrying a whole world of thoughts today, Sami," she said softly.
Sami let out a long breath.
"There's a grey cloud over my head, Grandma."
Grandma smiled with deep warmth.
She didn't tell him he was making things up.
She didn't laugh or brush it off.
Instead, she asked, "And what is your cloud doing?"
"It makes me feel sad... and sluggish... and every time I try to run away, it chases me."
Grandma gently took his hand in hers.
"You know, Sami, sad feelings are very much like clouds. When we run from them, they follow along. Most of the time, they just want to tell us something."
Sami looked up, wide-eyed.
"Can clouds talk?"
Grandma gave a tender wink.
"Sometimes they do... if we're brave enough to listen."

Listening to the Cloud#
That night, Sami sat quietly by his bedroom window under the moonlight.
He didn't try to run away.
He didn't pull the blanket over his face.
He looked right up at the fuzzy grey shape and spoke softly:
"Alright then... why are you here?"
For the very first time...
The cloud shifted.
It gave a little tremble.
Then, it started to rain.
Only this time, the rain felt different.
The droplets were bigger, softer.
It was as if the cloud were crying.
A soft, whispery voice echoed in the room:
"I was just trying to get your attention."
Sami gasped.
"You can talk?"
The little cloud bobbed up and down.
"I can."
Sami asked with a quiver in his voice:
"Why did you make me so sad?"
The cloud sighed like a gentle breeze.
"I didn't make your sadness, Sami. I was only carrying it for you because it felt too heavy inside."
Sami went quiet.
Then, in a tiny voice, he admitted:
"I really was feeling sad... wasn't I?"
The cloud drifted closer. "Do you want to tell me why?"
Sami looked down at his slippers.
He took a deep breath.
The room was completely still.
Then the words tumbled out:
"I miss my best friend who moved away to another city."
A warm tear rolled down Sami’s cheek.
And right at that exact second...
*Plop!* A large raindrop fell from the cloud.
The cloud shrunk just a little bit.
Sami kept going:
"And I feel like everybody expects me to be happy and cheerful all the time."
Another droplet fell.
The cloud grew smaller still.
"And sometimes," Sami sniffled, "I don't even know why I feel sad... and that scares me."
A gentle shower of rain poured down around him.
Yet it wasn't scary at all.
It felt warm and soothing, like a warm bath washing away the dust.
With every honest feeling Sami let out, the dark grey edges of the cloud began to soften and fade.
Sami letting his tears out alongside the gentle rain.

Turning Pure and White#
Sami and the little cloud talked for a long time into the night.
He spoke about the days when he felt lonely on the playground.
He spoke about the times he forced a grin even though his tummy felt tight.
He shared how he feared people would think he was weak if they saw him cry.
"Crying isn't being weak," the cloud murmured softly.
"Not at all."
"Sadness isn't something to be ashamed of."
The cloud swirled gently in a little circle.
"And I won't stay forever. When sadness is listened to with kindness, it always grows lighter."
For the first time in days, a real, warm smile spread across Sami’s face.
A true, genuine smile.
Right then and there...
The deep grey hue melted into soft silver.
Then into creamy white.
Until it turned into a fluffy, bright white little puff, sparkling with golden moonlight.
The rain stopped completely.
A cozy, comforting warmth settled over Sami’s shoulders.
He curled under his blanket and drifted off into the sweetest sleep.

A Brand-New Morning#
The next morning, Sami ran outside into the sunshine.
The little cloud was still there, but now it looked like a tiny, harmless piece of cotton candy floating high above his head.
Karim came rushing over with the ball. "Hey, Sami! Ready to play?"
Sami grinned ear to ear.
"You bet!"
He dashed across the grass, kicking and cheering.
The little cloud didn't vanish entirely.
But it wasn't heavy anymore.
It remained as a gentle reminder that all feelings have a place, and that sadness—just like rainy weather—never lasts forever.
From that day on, whenever a gloomy cloud started to gather, Sami didn't run away or bottle it up.
He would pause, sit quietly, and ask his heart:
"What is making you feel heavy today?"
Then he would talk it through—crying if he needed to, hugging his mom, confiding in his dad, or chatting with a trusted friend.
He knew that every honest word and every brave tear made the cloud a little lighter...
Until the bright, warm sun found its way back through.

Sami learned that sadness isn't an enemy to fight, but a gentle visitor telling us our hearts need a little extra love and care. When we make room for our feelings and talk about them, even the stormiest clouds turn soft and white, making way for brighter days ahead.
